A West New York family has created a GoFundMe page after a husband and father of two was detained by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) exactly one month ago.

“Hi, my name is Tifany Portillo, and I am creating this GoFundMe because on December 26, 2025—the day after Christmas—my dad was taken into ICE custody, and our family’s life was changed overnight. My dad, Jose Portillo, is a hardworking, loving man who has always put his family and others before himself. He has helped people even when we didn’t have much to give,” she wrote in the GoFundMe page description.
“Not only is he a good friend, uncle, and brother, but he is an extraordinary father.I am the oldest of two siblings, 15 and 8, here in the United States, and we also have an older sister in Honduras who my parents financially supported. Our lawyer has told us that my dad may be detained for 2-3 months, and without him during this time, I don’t know how we will afford basic bills and legal fees.”
She further wrote that any contributions would be used to cover legal costs, household expenses, and any other expenditures her family incurs during this time, also asking anyone who is unable to donate to share their story to raise awareness.
The West New Yorker did not provide any information as to how or why her father was detained by federal immigration authorities.
As of 4 p.m. this afternoon, the page, which is one week old, raised $8,759 towards from 188 donors, setting an overall goal of $15,000.
