U.S. Rep. Albio Sires (D-8) had a solid showing at the polls tonight, cruising to re-election and the West New York Board of Education ticket he supported, which included his wife, pulling off a clean sweep.

“Your Children’s Future,” the three-person slate that featured Adrienne Sires, Joseph Rodriguez, the husband of Freeholder Caridad Rodriguez (D-7), and Trustee Jonathan Castaneda won easily – notching between around 2,700 and 3,000 votes at the polls.

The fourth place finisher, Richard Acosta, of the “WNY Independents” slate, scored a little under 1,700 votes on the machines, but seems too far behind to wage a comeback, even without provisional and vote-by-mail ballots counted.

“The voters have spoken once again. I am truly grateful of the support that we have received. This is a testament to all the hard work that we have done on the school board, including becoming a High Performing School District and a Future Ready School District,” Castaneda told HCV.

“I am humble, proud and thankful to have had two extraordinary running mates in Adrienne Kole-Sires and Joseph F. Rodriguez. Our slogan was more than just a slogan, it our belief; that every school board member should be fighting for your children’s future.”

As for Albio Sires, his seat was never in jeopardy, as Republican challenger John Muniz raised just $800 for the contest. Independent Mahmoud Mahmoud was also well out of striking distance, despite running a spirited campaign for a first time candidate.
