Union City man, 66, sexually assaulted girl, 10; threatened her not to report crimes

A 66-year-old Union City man was charged with sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl that he was acquainted with, threatening to harm her not to report the crimes, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Francisco Ruiz, 66, of Union City, is charged with sexual assault, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, terroristic threats, and criminal restraint, Suarez said in a statement.

He was arrested at a residence on Avenue C in Bayonne and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

The crimes occurred at the defendant’s Union City apartment in May 2025. The defendant threatened to harm the 10-year-old victim if she reported the crimes and the two are known as family acquaintances.

Ruiz was arrested on Friday, June 20th by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
