StreetsPAC NJ, a statewide group dedicated to traffic safety reform and increased mass transit, is endorsing Ron Bautista for Hudson County commissioner in the uncontested 5th District race.

“Ron Bautista has been in the trenches fighting for safe, open streets and increased access to bike lanes and mass transit for over a decade. Our endorsement of his candidacy reflects the urgency of this moment, because Hudson County still has a lot of work to do to achieve Vision Zero,” Streets PAC NJ Executive Director Kevin Bing said in a statement.
“This work starts with expanding bus rapid transit options on Kennedy Boulevard while expanding our countywide bike lane network to ensure more drivers, bikers, and pedestrians are using safe and un-congested roads. We know that Ron will deliver, because he’s been organizing with us for over a decade on these exact quality of life issues.”
Bautista is one of nine consensus picks among Hudson County Democrats including HCDO Chair Craig Guy, who is also the county executive, Hoboken Mayor Emily Jabbour, and Jersey City Mayor James Solomon.
However, Bautista is not running under the HCDO banner, instead going with the “Working Families Democrat” slogan, and is still calling for further transparency and accountability at the county level.
“Whether you’re eight or 80, our streets are for you — and we must ensure that those streets are safe and functional. I’ve organized for over a decade with Kevin and street safety advocates in service of this idea, delivering more bike lanes and traffic safety infrastructure to both Hoboken and Jersey City,” added Bautista.
“This StreetsPAC NJ endorsement is a reflection of my commitment to you: Together, we will achieve Vision Zero in Hudson County and ensure safe streets for all.”
The Democratic primary elections for Hudson County commissioner are on June 2nd.
