“Second chances can change lives and, in turn, transform entire communities. For many, old records for even low-level offenses can stand in the way of job opportunities, higher education, or a safe place to call home,” McKnight said in a statement.

“Expungement acknowledges progress and can lift the burden of past mistakes off a person’s shoulders, enabling them to move forward and build a more fulfilling life. I encourage anyone who has struggled because of a prior record to join us for this impactful community event.”

An expungement is the removal, sealing, impounding, or isolation of all records on file within any court, detention, or correctional facility, law enforcement, or criminal justice agency.

The process can remove an arrest, all court proceedings related to a case, a criminal or juvenile conviction, or the outcome of a case, including a sentence.

The event will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and while appointments are not required, they are encouraged. Therefore, anyone interested in attending can register here.
