Sources: Teen killed by Union City DPW truck, 3 cops injured by motorcyclist

A teen was killed by a Union City Department of Public Works truck earlier this evening, with three local officers injured after at least one motorcyclist sped through the active crime scene, sources said. Union City accident

According to sources, who spoke under the condition of anonymity since they were not authorized to speak on the matter, a teenager was struck by a Union City DPW truck near 30th Street and Palisade Avenue sometime between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The juvenile was pronounced dead a short time later, sources said.

When Hudson County View arrived on the scene at about 9:15, the State Medical Examiner’s Officer was part of the investigation.

Joining them were the Weehawken, North Bergen and Union City Police Departments, as well as the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office.

Sources also said that shortly after road closures began as part of the investigation, at least one motorcyclist drove through the closures and injured three Union City police officers. Additionally, at least one of those officers injured is in critical condition.

At the crime scene, a motorcycle, as well as a motorcycle helmet, and other pieces of plastic debris could be spotted near the intersection of 31st Street and Palisade Avenue.

Representatives from various law enforcement agencies did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
