State Senator Angela McKnight (D-31) is applauding the proposed New Jersey Transit development project in Bayonne near the 34th Street Hudson-Bergen Light Right station, stating it “will make Bayonne more inclusive for all types of commuters.”

“I am very happy to hear of the Governor’s plans for a new transit-oriented development that will bring an economic boost to Bayonne and create opportunities for thousands of residents. From affordable housing to job opportunities and commuter amenities, this community center will have something for everyone,” she said in a statement.
“People across the state are faced with an affordability crisis, and in Hudson County, we are always looking to do what we can to help. These plans indicate that a minimum of 20% of the housing in the development will be designated as low-and moderate-income housing, further creating opportunities for Bayonne residents.”
Earlier this month, Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D), the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), and NJ Transit announced a transit-oriented project coming to the Peninsula City, as HCV first reported.
Specifically, NJ Transit is seeking a qualified partner to transform a 4.3-acre parcel of land adjacent to the Bayonne-34th Street Station along the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) into a transit-oriented development featuring apartments, retail, and public space.
“Compared to the two parking lots that currently occupy the space, the new community hub will create more useful resources for the thousands of daily commuters who travel from Bayonne to other hubs, including New York City and Jersey City,” McKnight added.
“The parking, bus connections, bicycle infrastructure, and streetscape improvements will make Bayonne more inclusive for all types of commuters.”
New Bayonne Mayor Sharon Ashe-Nadrowski has also expressed enthusiasm for the redevelopment plan.
“The City of Bayonne appreciates NJ Transit’s interest in developing a portion of the 34th Street Light Rail Station property. We look forward to seeing the results from the upcoming request-for-proposals process,” she said when the project was announced.
