“I would like to offer my deep condolences to the family members of the fallen Dallas Police Officers and all of the Dallas Police Department,” Sacco said in a statement issued this evening.

During a Black Lives Matter protest, five Dallas cops were killed by four suspects, two of which were snipers. One of the snipers died in a standoff with police and the other three suspects are in custody (h/t CNN).

“Police Officers across the country risk their lives everyday to protect ours and I am very grateful for the selfless service of the men and women of the North Bergen Police Department and for the close relationship they have managed to build with the community of North Bergen,” Sacco stated.

“I am a firm believer in Police Departments building strong bonds with the communities they serve and only through dialogue, tolerance, respect and everyday positive interactions tragedies, such as what occurred in Dallas, may be avoided.”

Earlier today, Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-32), a close ally of Sacco, issued a statement on recent tragedies across the country proclaiming “we cannot stand for any senseless loss of life.”
