Jersey City Ward A Councilwoman Denise Ridley is against NJ Transit’s proposed parking suspension at local Hudson-Bergen Light Rail lots expected to take effect on January 1st.

While the city does not have jurisdiction over NJ Transit parking facilities, Ridley emphasized that their input is essential when decisions directly impact local residents.
“Removing overnight and long-term parking puts an unnecessary burden on residents who rely on these lots to reduce congestion on neighborhood streets,” she said in a statement.
“The Liberty State Park HBLR station, in particular, offers one of the most cost-effective parking options in the system. Instead of eliminating services, NJ Transit should ensure pricing consistency and equitable access across all HBLR lots.”
She further stated that eliminating these parking options would likely increase pressure on already limited street parking in Ward A and surrounding communities.
Ridley also stressed the importance of collaborative decision-making between NJ Transit and the city, especially when proposed changes affect residents’ daily lives.
At the December 10th city council meeting, she is vowing to introduce a resolution urging NJ Transit to delay implementation of the parking suspension and to participate in community discussions with Jersey City residents before moving forward.
“Our community deserves a voice in any change that affects mobility, affordability, and quality of life. A public meeting with NJ Transit is the appropriate next step so residents can ask questions, share concerns, and work together toward a better solution,” Ridley concluded.
Ridley is seeking a third term on Ward E Councilman James Solomon’s ticket in tomorrow non-partisan runoff race against Brandi Warren, who ran on former Gov. Jim McGreevey’s slate.
