U.S. Rep. Rob Menendez (D-8) is backing U.S. Rep. Andy Kim (D-3) for Senate, the seat previously held by Rob’s father, Bob Menendez (D-NJ): “Andy is the right candidate for the moment.”

“In Congress, Andy and I have fought to lower costs, restore freedoms, and better the lives of those we represent. As we shape the future of New Jersey together, Andy is the right candidate for the moment, and I know he will be an incredible public servant for our state,” Menendez said in a statement.
Rep. Menendez had been mum on the Senate race as his father was on trial for corruption charges including accepting gold bars, cash, and a car in exchange for his influence, as well as acting as a foreign agent to Egypt.
Bob Menendez was convicted on all counts by a federal grand jury in July and dropped an independent bid for re-election.
Kim is the Democratic nominee for Senate and is facing a challenge in the form of Republican nominee Curtis Bashaw in the November 5th general election.
“Rob and I are both driven by wanting to build a better future for our young kids, and we know how much is at stake in this election. New Jersey is ready for a new generation of leadership and I look forward to continuing my work with Rob to deliver a brighter future for New Jersey’s families,” Kim added.
The announcement comes ahead of Kim and Menendez taking a small business tour of Newark’s North Ward tomorrow, about a month after the two federal lawmakers took a tour of the Gateway sites in North Bergen and Weehawken.
