“We couldn’t ask for a better candidate than Al and we’re proud to have a rent stabilization advocate on the team,” Ramos said in a statement.

“He’s seen firsthand the challenges our community faces and has the financial expertise, problem-solving skills, and deep-rooted love for Hoboken to help tackle them. Al is ready to deliver real results for our residents.”

A graduate of Hoboken High School, where he was valedictorian, Veloce studied on a full academic scholarship at Stevens Institute of Technology, where he received his undergrad degree in finance.

Now working in the financial services industry, he’s ready to put his skills to work at City Hall by reviewing public contracts, proposing solutions, and ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.

“We need smart, responsible planning for our future. That means making proactive infrastructure investments instead of waiting for water main breaks, prioritizing public safety, and ensuring our local government is working for everyone,” added Veloce.

He also co-founded the Madeline Cooper Education Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to providing scholarships for Hoboken students.

This fall, three council-at-large seats, as well as the 6th Ward council seat, will be up for grabs as at least five people run for mayor.

Ramos, who is the first candidate to announce a running mate, is in a field with 2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher, 3rd Ward Councilman Mike Russo, Councilwoman-at-Large Emily Jabbour, and former U.S. Treasury official Dini Ajmani.
