Prosecutor: West New York man arrested for Jersey City murder, 2nd suspect sought

A West New York man has been arrested for a Jersey City murder that occurred earlier this month, while a second man is being sought in connection to the incident, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Bruce Stewart, 24, of West New York, was charged with reckless manslaughter in as a result of the fatal July 5th assault of Glen Mackie, Jr., 29, of Jersey City, Suarez said in a statement.

Authorities have also issued an arrest warrant for Elnardo Chandler, 29, of Jersey City, in connection to the homicide.

On July 5th at approximately 12:15 a.m., Jersey City police were dispatched to the area of Lexington Avenue on a report of a street fight. Upon arrival, responding officers found Mackie on the sidewalk in the area of 21 Lexington Ave., officials said.

Mackie was unresponsive with “an obvious wound to his head.” He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at approximately 5:00 p.m. the next day, July 6th, police said.

The state Medical Examiner has determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head and manner of death to be homicide.
