Prosecutor: North Bergen man caught with over 20 ounces of crystal meth valued at $59k

A North Bergen man was caught with over 20 ounces of crystal methamphetamine, with a street value of about $59,000, and $3,500 on Tuesday, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Christopher Durkin, 55, of North Bergen, was arrested on two counts of possession of
crystal meth with the intent to distribute, one count of conspiracy to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS within 500 feet of public property while also within 1,000 feet of a school and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia, Suarez said in a statement.

Durkin was arrested without incident at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City after a search of his vehicle and residence on Tuesday led to the recovery of more than 20 ounces of crystal meth and approximately $3,500 in cash, authorities said.

The street value of the total quantity of crystal methamphetamine seized is approximately $59,000, officials said.

Suarez credited the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit for assisting with the arrest.
