Prosecutor: Jersey City man charged for fatal shooting of 30-year-old woman arrested

A Jersey City man charged for the fatal shoot of a 30-year-old woman earlier this week has been arrested about 24 after the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office made a public appeal to locate him, authorities said.

This morning at approximately 11:30 a.m., Mark Stewart 26, of Jersey City was arrested after surrendering himself to Homicide Unit detectives at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City, Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

He was arrested without incident and will be housed at the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending his first appearance.

Stewart was charged with aggravated manslaughter in violation, possession of a weapon (firearm) for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

On Tuesday, July 27,th just prior to 1:00 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Grant Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive.

Responding officers found a 30-year-old victim, later identified as Felicia Stewart, who had sustained gunshot wound(s) to her back and was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased at 2:02 a.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be gunshot wound(s) to the abdomen and the manner of death to be homicide.

There is no known familial relationship between the victim and the suspect.

Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit for the investigation and arrest and the Jersey City Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.
