Prosecutor: Jersey City man arrested in Pennsylvania for Bostwick Avenue murder in May

A Jersey City man was arrested in Pennsylvania over the weekend for a fatal stabbing that occurred on Bostwick Avenue in May, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Sean Williams, 33, of Jersey City, has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, Suarez said in a statement.

Williams was arrested without incident at approximately 3:30 p.m. on West Emmaus Avenue in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He will be held in Pennsylvania on additional charges pending an extradition hearing to New Jersey.

On May 29th, at approximately 1:53 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a 911 call reporting a fight on Bostwick Avenue.

Responding officers found an unresponsive man – later identified as Jawon Purcell, 28, of Jersey City – with multiple apparent stab wounds in the area of 112 Bostwick Ave. He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 2:03 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be sharp force wounds and the manner of death to be Homicide.

Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and the U.S. Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Allentown Police Department for the arrest.
