Prosecutor: Brooklyn man charged with sexually assaulting acquaintance in Jersey City

A Brooklyn man has been charged with sexually assaulting an acquaintance in Jersey City last month, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Yesterday, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested Raul Pena, 31, of Brooklyn, for committing a sex crime on a woman in Jersey City. The crime occurred on Sunday, August 20th at a residence in Jersey City, Suarez said in a statement.

The 29-year-old victim met the defendant through an acquaintance in the hours leading up to the assault.

He is charged with aggravated sexual assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14- 2a(7), a crime of the first degree. He was arrested at his residence with the assistance of the NYPD Special Victims Unit.

Pena is being detained at Brooklyn Central Booking pending extradition to New Jersey.

Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit with the investigation and arrest, with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department and NYPD Special Victims Unit.
