Alexis Cottrell-Nelson, 24, of Bayonne, was charged with receiving stolen property, Musella said in a statement.

On March 3rd, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotic Task Force conducted a traffic stop of a suspected stolen vehicle traveling through Bergen County and determined it was a “re-VIN” stolen vehicle.

A VIN, or vehicle identification number, is one or more small plates affixed to all vehicles that provide a permanent identification of that automobile, regardless of ownership or license plates.

The VIN affixed to this vehicle did not coincide with paperwork provided to detectives.

Detectives were able to quickly confirm the vehicle was reported stolen from Miami on September 25th, 2022, and the driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as Cottrell-Nelson.

As a result of the investigation, she was arrested at the scene on Friday, March 3, charged accordingly, and released on her own recognizance pending a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, authorities said.
