Prosecutor: 3 teens charged in the Jersey City murder of 16-year-old high school student

Three teens have been charged in the Jersey City murder of a 16-year-old Snyder High School student, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Three juveniles from Jersey City were recently arrested without incident by members of the
Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and charged in connection with the murder of Judane Holmes, 16, of Jersey City, Suarez said in a statement.

On Friday, January 4th, at approximately 2:00 p.m., a 14-year-old male was arrested on Virginia Avenue. He has charged with murder as accomplice, possession of a weapon (firearm) for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, officials said.

On the same day, shortly after 12:30 p.m., a 15-year-old male was arrested on Sawmill Road in Alloway Township. He was hit with the same charges as the 14-year-old, police said.

Then on Monday, January 7th, a 16-year-old male was arrested at the Prosecutor’s Office
at 595 Newark Avenue in Jersey City. He was charged with murder and the aforementioned weapons violations, authorities said.

Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit for the investigation and arrests and the Jersey City Police Department for assisting in the investigation.

On Wednesday, December 26th at approximately 3:25 p.m., the Jersey City Police
Department received a report of shots fired in the area of 209 Bidwell Ave.

Responding officers found Holmes at that location with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 3:35 p.m., officials said.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the cause of death to be gunshot
wounds and the manner of death to be homicide.
