Police recover abandoned hand gun, ‘numerous spent shell casings ‘in Bayonne

The Bayonne Police Department recovered an abandoned 9 millimeter handgun “and numerous spent shell casings” in the middle of the street early this morning, authorities said.

This morning around 4:36 a.m., Bayonne police received a report of shots fired in the area of 52nd Street and Broadway, according to Police Lt. Eric Amato.

Upon arrival to the scene, officers and detectives located and recovered a 9mm handgun abandoned in the street and numerous spent shell casings, officials said.

All persons involved in the shooting had fled the scene prior police arriving The investigation is still in the early stages and Bayonne Police Detectives are actively pursuing all leads, authorities said.

More information will be released at the appropriate time and no participants have been identified as of yet, police said.
