Police: Maryland man arrested in Bayonne after taking cops on high-speed pursuit

A Maryland man was arrested in Bayonne after taking police on a high-speed pursuit early yesterday morning, authorities said.

Michael H. Fischer, 23, of Mechanicsville, Maryland, was charged with eluding and resisting arrest by flight, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Fischer was taken into custody at around 4:13 a.m. on Saturday from the area of West 50th Street.

As officers attempted to stop the vehicle Fischer was driving in the area of 37th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard, Fischer disregarded their efforts and fled northbound on JFK Boulevard at a high rate of speed.

Fischer disregarded several red traffic lights as he led the officers on a high speed pursuit before stopping his car on West 51st Street and fleeing on foot before being stopped in the area of West 50th Street and taken into custody, authorities said.
