Irvin Acevedo, 45, of North Bergen, was charged with DUI, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin), and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Police Det. Lt. Danilo Cabrera.

Yesterday at about 8:10 p.m., Sgt. John Hermann and Police Officer Enrico Gnassi responded to the area of 1500 Jefferson St. on a report of a man sleeping in a motor vehicle.

As they arrived, they observed a parked white GMC running with its brake and reverse lights activated. The operator was found conscious and disoriented. In plain view, they found a wax fold of suspected heroin.

The operator was identified as Acevedo, who was placed under arrest for the aforementioned charges. He was transported to police headquarters where he provided breath samples and was tested by a DRE Officer (Drug Recognition Expert).

Acevedo was released on a summons to a responsible party pending his appearance in court, authorities said.
