Rainier J. Solis, 45, of Staten Island, New York, was charged with driving while intoxicated, assault by auto, and endangering the welfare of children, police said.

Solis was taken into custody at about 9:47 p.m. from the area of Route 440 South and East 22nd Street. Officers responded to the area on a report of a pedalcyclist who had been struck by a motor vehicle.

The on-scene investigation led to the arrest of Solis for drinking and driving. The 37-year-old pedalcyclist was severely injured in the crash and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Solis was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child since it was determined that he was operating his vehicle while intoxicated with his 2 juvenile children as passengers, authorities said.
