Robert Braxton, 42, of Hoboken, is charged with aggravated assault and two counts of endangering another person relating to the February 16th Secaucus incident, Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller and Hoboken Police Chief Steven Aguiar said in a joint statement.
Additionally, Braxton was charged with animal cruelty, risk of widespread injury, and two counts of simple assault, disorderly persons offenses, relating to the February 18th incident in Hoboken.
Three cane corso dogs were seized by the Secaucus Police Department after obtaining authorization from the court.
Braxton was scheduled to appear in municipal court relating the seizure of the dogs on Tuesday, February 24th and was arrested prior to the hearing. The municipal appearance was adjourned until Tuesday, March 3rd.
All three dogs remain at the Secaucus Animal Shelter and criminal charges were filed against the owner after consulting with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.
The defendant was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
Braxton surrendered three additional dogs to Jersey City animal control, Hoboken’s contracted animal control agency, after a dog attack in the Hoboken ShopRite parking lot where the canines attacked a Bernedoodle named Frank.
This prompted his family to start a GoFundMe page, where they have raised $28,636 from 667 donors as of Wednesday morning as they approach their $30,000 goal to cover their beloved pooch’s medical costs.
