Jose L. Claudio Jr., 35, of Clifton, was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, according to Police Lt. Eric Amato.

Claudio was taken into custody around 3:14 a.m. Sunday morning from the area of 812 Broadway. Officers observed him engaged in a street fight with another individual. Officers ordered Claudio to stop fighting, but he didn’t heed their commands, police said.

The officers then tried to physically separate the two individuals, but Claudio still resisted those attempts.

He was then informed that he was going to be placed under arrest, but again refused commands and was uncooperative while trying to be handcuffed, officials said.

An officer then deployed a short burst of pepper spray that resulted in Claudio finally giving in and allowing the officers to take him safely into custody, police said.
