Police: Jersey City man caught with weed while kids in the car in Bayonne

A Jersey City man was caught with marijuana in his vehicle in Bayonne while two young children were in the back seat, police said.

Rafael Florentino, 22,of Jersey City, was charged with possession of marijuana over 1 ounce but less than 5 pounds, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of housing,
Possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, and possession of narcotic paraphernalia with intent to distribute, according to Police Lt. Eric Amato.

Meanwhile, Brandan Gomez, 20, also of Jersey City, was charged with possession of 50 grams or less of marijuana, authorities said.

Florentino and Gomez were taken into custody around 5:01 p.m. from the area of 57th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard for narcotics violations, officials said.

These arrests resulted from a motor vehicle stop for careless driving, where an 8-year-old female and 13-year-old male were also in the car, police said.

The juveniles were released to the care of their parents and it is unknown what the relation of the juveniles was to Florentino or Gomez, authorities said.
