Police: Jersey City man appears to jump to his death from high-rise balcony

A 38-year-old Jersey City man was found dead on the balcony of a high-rise building after apparently jumping from the 21st floor, according to a police report of the incident. Jersey City police

Yesterday at about 1:50 p.m., police responded to 20 Newport Parkway on a report of someone falling from the 21st floor and landing on the third floor patio in the rear of the apartment, authorities said.

After multiple first responders arrived, including police, the fire department and EMTs, the man was pronounced dead at 2:03 p.m., officials said

The victim’s mother said her son was just drinking a glass of water and then suddenly disappeared after he finished it.  She then heard a scream from the balcony and saw her son’s body several floors down when she, police said.

The mother of told authorities her son had recently lost his job and was feeling depressed. She was extremely distraught and voiced that she was now contemplating hurting herself, so she was brought to the Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.
