Frank Ramirez, 21, of Bayonne, was charged with carjacking, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Ramirez was taken into custody at approximately 7:30 p.m. by the New York State Police. Bayonne police officers responded to the area of 26th Street and Avenue A on a report of a motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, officers were met by the drivers of both vehicles, one of whom stated that her vehicle had been stolen as she awaited police.

According to the 40 year-old female victim, at about 4:46 p.m., she was involved in a motor vehicle crash in the area of 26th Street and Avenue A.

While she was sitting in her vehicle awaiting the arrival of the police, a man, later identified as Ramirez, approached her vehicle, opened the driver door, and ordered her out of the vehicle while grabbing her arm and pulling her out of the vehicle.

Ramirez then entered the vehicle and fled the scene. The ensuing investigation led to him being identified as the actor and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

During the investigation, the victim was able to ascertain from OnStar that her vehicle was traveling on Interstate 87 North in the area of Yonkers, NY.

This information was immediately relayed to the NY State Police who, coincidentally, advised the Bayonne Police officer that the vehicle was just involved in a crash in the area and Ramirez was apprehended after originally fleeing the crash on foot.

The victim reported no injuries and Ramirez is currently awaiting extradition to New Jersey, authorities said.
