Jeron R. Ransom, 23, of Bayonne, was charged with criminal sexual contact late last night, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Ransom was taken into custody at 11:46 p.m. Tuesday from the area of 8th Street and Broadway. Officers responded to the area on a report of an alleged sex offense.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the 25-year-old victim who also resides in Bayonne. The woman reported that while she was walking on 8th Street, a man, later identified as Ransom, approached her and requested her Instagram handle.

After the victim refused his request, especially from a stranger, and stressed that she was not interested in his advances, Ransom persisted and grabbed the victim, pulling her closer to him and hugging her.

“While hugging her, Ransom rubbed his hands up and down her back. The victim was able to push Ransom away, at which time [he] proceeded to touch himself in a sexual manner, appearing to gratify himself,” Amato said.

Ransom was located and apprehended in the area of 8th Street and Broadway and he was last arrested for a criminal sexual contact incident on April 12th.
