Police: 72-year-old Bayonne man thrown to ground as his store is robbed of $300

A 72-year-old Bayonne man was thrown to the ground as he attempted to stop a man who stole $300 from his store, Sweet Neighbors Mini Mart, last week, police said.

The incident occurred at 55 East 21st St., the location of the mini mart, on Thursday around 10:04 a.m., where a man forced his way behind the register, shoved the elderly store owner and stole $300 in cash, according to Police Lt. Eric Amato.

The victim exited the store and attempted to lock the robber inside, but was unable to secure the door. The man then fled the store, pushing the victim to the ground in the
process, authorities said.

A search of the immediate area did not provide any clues on the whereabouts of the attacker. The victim suffered minor cuts and scrapes to his knees and elbows. but refused medical attention, officials said.

The incident remains under investigation.
