Police: 55-year-old Bayonne man sustains jaw injury after being attacked by 14-year-old

A 55-year-old Bayonne man sustained a jaw injury after being attacked by a 14-year-old boy early yesterday evening, police said.

The juvenile, 14, of Bayonne, was charged with aggravated assault, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

He was taken into custody at approximately 5:32 p.m. yesterday from the area of 29th Street and Avenue C. Officers responded to the area on a report of an assault in progress.

Upon arrival, officers encountered the 55-year-old victim seated on the sidewalk with multiple abrasions to his right arm and a serious injury to his jaw.

According to the victim, while in the area, he became involved in a verbal altercation with a group of males, one of whom was identified as Juvenile 1.

As the victim attempted to walk away from the group, Juvenile 1 approached him from
behind and struck him in the face with a closed fist causing the victim to fall to the ground.

As the victim got up from the ground, he attempted to walk away but was punched in the face again by Juvenile 1, causing him to fall to the ground a second time.

Juvenile 1, located on a nearby corner, was positively identified as the actor and taken
into custody. The victim was transported to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries, authorities said.
