Two Bayonne men were arrested after firing off a pellet gun at street signs and birds, where a defaced 9mm handgun was also recovered, police said.

Kwadir Smith, 20, was chargd with contempt, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a firearm, and certain
persons not to possess weapons, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.
Additionally, Rahjel Stephens, 19, was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
They were taken into custody at 12:54 p.m. yesterday from the area of East 18th Street. Officers responded to the area on a report of two men, later identified as Smith and Stephens, shooting, what appeared to be a pellet gun, at traffic signs and birds.
An investigation led to the recovery of an airsoft rifle determined to be in the possession of Stephens and a defaced 9mm handgun equipped with a high capacity magazine determined to be in the possession of Smith.
During the arrest process, it was determined that Smith was prohibited from possessing a
weapon as per a court order, authorities said.
