“In a time when fundamental rights and freedoms are under attack, I am proud to continue the fight to ensure that every person has the ability to make decisions about their health and their bodies,” the congressman said in a statement.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and I look forward to our continued collaboration as we work to safeguard and strengthen reproductive rights and personal autonomy for all Americans.”
While his Republican opponent, Anthony Valdes, is also pro-choice, as he said at a May candidate forum in the Jersey City Heights, it’s not surprising Planned Parenthood opted not to take a chance on him given how the 8th District is one of the bluest in the country.
Additionally, Menendez had $404,972.71 cash on hand as of June 30th, while Valdes is yet to file a fundraising report, according to the Federal Elections Commission.
The Planned Parenthood Action Fund is also supporting U.S. Rep. Andy Kim (D-3) for Senate, Assemblyman Herb Conaway, the Democratic congressional nominee, to succeed him, and Democratic nominee Sue Altman in the 7th District.
They are also backing U.S. Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-5), Frank Pallone (D-6), Nellie Pou (D-9), LaMonica McIver (D-10), Mikie Sherrill (D-11) and Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-14).
