A pedestrian was injured by a hit-and-run driver this morning near the intersection of John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Duncan Avenue in Jersey City, eyewitnesses said.

“Today we’ve had another pedestrian injured by a hit and run driver on JFK Blvd, which has been identified on the high injury network as being one of the most dangerous streets in Hudson County. Incremental improvements have been insufficient. Our community has seen many people killed or seriously injured by cars on the boulevard, and we’ve had an infinite number of near misses,” Safe Streets JC President Talya Schwartz said in a statement.
“JFK Blvd and Duncan is an intersection with a playground, high school, and two residential apartment buildings. We demand that Hudson County put safety first, slow down the cars, remove left turns, narrow the street, and once and for all fix JFK now–not in 10 years.”
The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit responded to the scene of the crime, as did the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office.
Sources familiar with the incident said that the pedestrian suffered non-life threatening injuries, with neither the vehicle and/or driver identified yet.
Early Sunday afternoon, Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello provided additional information.
Shortly before 8 a.m. Saturdat, the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Duncan Avenue.
Responding officers located a 37-year-old female victim with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene.
The victim, a Jersey City resident, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center where she remains in stable condition.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit.
