This morning at approximately 6:33 a.m., a 55-year-old man was crossing Tonnelle Avenue when he was struck by a 2009 Dodge Pick-up truck in the northbound left lane. The driver of vehicle stopped and remained on scene, according to Det. Lt. Bronson Jusino.

North Bergen police, North Bergen EMS, and Jersey City ALS responded to the scene and CPR was administered to the pedestrian, who was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries

North Bergen police traffic investigators are conducting the investigation and the roadway was re-opened at about 8:05 a.m., Jusino said.

This is the first traffic fatality in the county in 2023 and four occurred on Tonnelle Avenue last year.
