North Bergen man charged in Hasbrouck Heights crash that left woman in critical condition

A North Bergen man has been charged with assault by in auto in connection to a Hasbrouck Heights incident last month that left a 19-year-old woman in critical condition, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced.

Kal Elhoregy, 52, North Bergen, faces one count of assault by auto for crashing into a parked van on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights on October 24th, causing the driver to sustain life-threatening injuries and the 19-year-old male passenger to be ejected from the vehicle, Musella said in a statement.

He is also accused of speeding and reckless driving.

The passenger only suffered minor injuries while the driver remains in critical condition today at the Hackensack Memorial Hospital, authorities said.

Elhoregy and the passenger traveling with him, a 23-year-old man, were also transported to the same hospital for minor injuries.

His first court appearance is currently scheduled for Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack on November 18th, officials said.

Musella also thanked Hasbrouck Heights police officers and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification for their roles in the investigation.

  1. Usually North Bergen & County PD ALL OVER maybe because of Covid Slacking a little to far. Can’t Be as bad as Fairview NJ (Bergen county) 3 officers on a Friday night, Crime happens Better to have extra on. Then get another patrol unit later.
