Olha Buhlak, who will be giving the valedictory address at the graduation ceremony, has maintained a 112.265 GPA and is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Academy student.

She joined North Bergen High School in her freshman year as an ESL (English as a second language) student from Ukraine, and will be attending Johns Hopkins University in the fall on a full scholarship.

Joining her to deliver the salutatory address will be fellow STEM Academy student, Victoria Spignolio, who has also shown exceptional academic prowess, with a 110.162 GPA.

Previously ranked fifth in the class, her improvement is a result of her hard work and motivation. She is currently waiting on acceptances from colleges, but is planning to study psychology with a concentration in research.

“On behalf of all of the teachers and faculty of North Bergen High School, congratulations to Olha and Victoria on their remarkable academic achievements,” North Bergen Superintendent of Schools Dr. George Solter said in a statement.

“As the valedictorian and salutatorian they serve as inspiring examples of what hard work, determination, and commitment can achieve. I have the utmost confidence they both will continue to make a positive impact in the world and I wish them all the best as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.”
