The call regarding the incident came in at approximately 11:30 a.m., police radio transmissions said, which indicated that three masked men, one believed to have used a “long rifle,” fired shots in a parking lot of the Salem Lafayette apartments located on Ocean Avenue.

According to first responders communicating on the radio, the three men fled the scene in a white vehicle which was said to have traveled onto the New Jersey Turnpike shortly after the incident occurred.

While no one sustained any injuries, several vehicles in the parking lot were struck with bullets.

City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said that police responded to call indicating that shots were fired near the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Union Street.

One person believed to be connected to the incident has been arrested and police recovered a handgun from him, she added.

No further information was immediately available.
