“This training is not only essential to the safety of our firefighters but also to the residents and workers in Jersey City’s rapidly growing skyline,” Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said in a statement.
As part of a series of scheduled evolutions aimed at strengthening firefighter preparedness in complex urban settings, the hands-on training focuses on advanced pumping techniques and the charging and flowing of hose lines — critical components of high-rise fire response.
“We are constantly working to enhance our operational readiness, especially when it comes to high-rise emergencies. I’m proud of our department’s commitment to excellence and innovation,” added Fire Chief Jack Johnson.
Deputy Chief Constance Zappella, who leads the JCFD’s Division of Training says it was an honor to host fellow colleagues from Miami.
“This kind of inter-agency collaboration and knowledge sharing strengthens the fire service as a whole. It speaks volumes about the leadership and expertise within our department that others are looking to us as a model.”
Past evolutions also included participation from the Newark Fire Department, and additional dates were made available to other agencies interested in observing or participating in the expert training drills.
“This training was the result of weeks of planning, coordination, and strong partnerships. Thanks to the support of 55 Hudson Street and our city partners, we were able to create a realistic, high-pressure environment to better prepare our crews for the challenges of high-rise firefighting,” Battalion Chief Christopher Daliani.
To that end, representatives from the City of Miami Fire Department praised the training program.
“The professionalism and attention to detail displayed by Jersey City’s firefighters is impressive. Their approach to high-rise firefighting and pumping strategy is exactly the type of hands-on experience we are looking to incorporate in Miami. We appreciate the opportunity to learn from one of the best.”
Additionally, the Jersey City Fire Department extends its gratitude to the management of 55 Hudson St. and all involved agencies for their continued support of collaborative emergency response training.
