In statement issued by her office, McKnight said she hopes to highlight contributions that would otherwise go unrecognized and hopes to inspire others in the community to follow in their footsteps.
“#Highlight31 sends a message to the larger community that there are many great people in the district making things happen in our neighborhoods,†McKnight stated.
“This can give hope and make people believe they too can make a difference, but more importantly, that they are part of a special community that they should contribute to and invest in. Our hope is that by sharing these stories, #Highlight31 can inspire individuals to take action and be the change their community needs.â€
McKnight added that the #Hightlight31 campaign will highlight positive contributions made by individuals, organizations and businesses in Jersey City and Bayonne to not only recognize their good work, but foster a sense of pride and unity in neighborhoods that too often get a bad rap.
McKnight will honor a deserving individual, organization, or business in the district every month, and share their story on social media and her website.
At the end of the year, all honorees will be recognized during a special program and an honoree will be recognized for January.
Additionally, McKnight encourages all residents who know a person, business or organization that deserves this recognition to submit their nominations.
The nomination form is available for download on McKnight’s website, www.aswamcknight.com. Completed nomination forms may be emailed to aswmcknight@njleg.org, faxed to 201-721-5413, or dropped off at McKnight’s district office.
