In 2016, Walton was featured in the Woman’s Day Magazine “Second Chances” publication, highlighting the Most Excellent Way Life Center and its collaboration with Same Sky Incorporated to employ female ex-offenders.

She also serves as the President of the Jersey City Women’s Clergy Alliance and became an ordained pastor in 2006. Additionally, Walton is the founder of the Forrest Street Block Association and a board member of the Hudson County Homeless Trust Fund.

“My life’s work has been to focus upon the community, to work with those who need a Second Chance, and to provide those necessities such as temporary housing and medical and behavioral treatment and support, so that persons can reach their highest potential,” Walton said in a statement.

“To serve on the Jersey City Council would be a tremendous opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Ward F families.”

Furthermore, the council hopeful is a certified recovery assistance counselor, certified social worker, and certified alcohol and drug counselor and was also trained as a Jersey City police chaplain in 2017.

“Gloria Walton is among the most compassionate, effective, and strong leaders for social change. Gloria’s life’s ministry has been driven by results, action steps, necessary to change people’s lives. Gloria will be a transformative agent, bringing impactful change to Ward F,” asserted McGreevey.

Walton is the fourth candidate to be announced for McGreevey’s ticket in the past eight days.

Brandi Warren, the director of the New Jersey City University (NJCU) Center for Teacher Preparation is running in Ward A, while Efrain Badilla Orleans Jr., the building manager and events coordinator of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish (Jersey City), is the Ward B candidate.

For the moment, Ward C Councilman Rich Boggiano is the only incumbent announced for the McGreevey slate, seeking his fourth term in office in the non-partisan November 4th, 2025 municipal elections.

As it stands now, McGreevey and Council President Joyce Watterman have both rolled out four city council candidates, and Hudson County Commissioner O’Dea (D-2) will have formally announced three by the end of the day.

Former Board of Education President Mussab Ali is the only declared mayoral candidate that is yet to reveal any running mates.
