A localized boil water advisory issued for western portions of Hoboken late Monday evening has been lifted, while another main break has closed streets downtown.

“In the interest of public health, customers of Hoboken Water Services were notified on September 15, 2025 that there was a potential for drinking water to be compromised due to pressure loss during emergency water main break repairs,” Veolia Water announced this morning.
“As a precaution, customers near the main break site (between 6th & 10th Sts, from Adams to Marshall) were advised to boil tap water before use. We are pleased to report that the repairs have been completed and subsequent water quality testing shows the water quality meets all regulatory standards.”
They recommend running water faucets for three to five minutes to flush your service connection, emptying and cleaning automatic ice makers and water chillers, and draining and refilling your hot water heater is the temperature is set below 113 degrees.
This was the second boil water advisory issued in a week after a sinkhole caused a 12-inch water main break at the intersection of Newark and Garden Streets last week, as HCV first reported.
The construction accident in the western part of the city came just hours after U.S. Rep. Rob Menendez (D-8) and U.S. Senator Cory Booker announced nearly $3.7 million in federal funding for Hoboken water infrastructure.
Early this morning, the city released a Nixle alert stating that Veolia was performing emergency repairs at River Street and Hudson Place, closing roads near the Hoboken Terminal.
Specifically, River Street is closed between Newark Street and Hudson Place, Hudson Place is closed at Hudson Street to the dead end, and Observer Highway is closed from Washington St to Hudson Street.
“Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area or anticipate congestion. Pedestrians will have access to the Hoboken Terminal for PATH and New Jersey Transit trains. New Jersey Transit buses can access the temporary bus terminal on Hudson Street,” the alert says.
“Pickup and drop off for HOP and apartment building shuttles will move to Hudson Street between Hudson Place and Newark Street during repairs.”
