LETTER: Support Hoboken 2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher for re-election

11

In a letter to the editor, Hoboken resident Bonnie Murray explains why 2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher, who she ran against in 2015, deserves to be re-elected.

Dear Editor,

Hoboken fellow 2nd ward residents and Maxwell community neighbors: It’s that time of year again. Let’s be civil to each other, but be proud of who we believe in and hope for a clean election this Fall.

Many years ago I ran as an Independent candidate for 2nd ward City council. While I did not win, I couldn’t have lost to a better person – Tiffanie Fisher.

She is transparent, involved, committed and that shows up every day.

At the Maxwell Harvest Fest event two years ago when we had a problem with the state official concerned about jumpy castles we were using and over 100 kids coming in one hour to enjoy them, she ran right over to our community to see what she could do to help.

She didn’t have to, but she did.

She continues her commitment to us everyday by fighting for what our ward needs.

A better, more connected waterfront, pushing back on the current administration around bad deals they struck with NY Waterway, keeping her eye on 2nd ward infrastructure improvements that must be made.

I am happy that she supported the removal of e-scooters and e-bikes from riding on sidewalks in our small, congested town.

She also sponsored the law that makes riding on sidewalks with an e-bike/e-scooter illegal so that we have a safer place to walk in our Mile Square City.

Now more than ever as we’ve seen inflation rise and money in our pocket lessen, I know I can rely on Tiffanie at the city council table to be the fiscal watchdog she’s been the last 8 years in her role.

She continues to fight the mayor’s 25% tax increases we’ve experienced the past 8 years, bringing the increase down to 14% and saving Hoboken taxpayers $7M annually.

She’s been deeply involved and committed to improving the high school as well, which I have not seen other candidates support as much as Tiffanie has the last few years.

Her character is warm-hearted, approachable and very open to hearing resident concerns and she’ll advocate on your behalf as she has mine in city council meetings.

I encourage you to re elect Tiffanie Fisher as our 2nd ward Councilwoman on November 7th. She’s made a difference in our 2nd ward, has an 8 year history in the role, a deep knowledge of the problems and a fierce desire to make our community the best it can be.

Please vote 1E on Nov. 7th!

Bonnie Murray
Hoboken 2nd Ward resident

  1. Make you a deal: I’ll vote for her if she promises to hire a copy editor to turn her confusing 20,000-word opus emails into something bordering on readable. Sound good?

Also: “She continues to fight the mayor’s 25% tax increases we’ve experienced the past 8 years, bringing the increase down to 14% and saving Hoboken taxpayers $7M annually.”

Not sure where you live, Bonnie, but my taxes haven’t gone up 25%.

    • Bhalla’s asked tax increases would have been at least 24% if Fisher and others had not objected.
The problem with one person having a choke hold on the City government is there would be no one to say no.

      • Ravi is always trying to tax the 💩 out of Hoboken. He sucks in all that money for his overpaid mayor’s office staff. These people are being paid a fortune. 200K for a junior BA with no financial experience! None of them can make even half that in the private sector.

At least Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher tries to cut Ravi’s tax hikes back whenever possible. Lose her, and another Ravi rubberstamp arrives to tax Hoboken to hell.

        Don’t let that happen Hoboken!

      • Dude, the letter says “She continues to fight the mayor’s 25% tax increases we’ve experienced the past 8 year…”. This is demonstrably false, we have not “experienced” taxes going up 25%. Get real, fact matter.

    • You make the same comment about her newslewtter being too long literally every time someone mentions her. The fact that your only complaint is that she tells us things, is a strong endorsement. Some of the council is afaid to put out newsletters and distract from ravi. Lets call you the 20,000 word man.

  2. Yeah, those emails are long… i wish there was a condensed version. I think she means the municipal rate that the mayor and council oversee which is like a third of our tax bill. Bhalla has put up huge tax increases close to 10% in a couple of years even with all the Covid money. Much higher than Zimmer.

  3. She should definitely stick to not giving out any information like Phil and relying on the mayor’s 3 paid spokesperson to put out statements to help him run for congress. You make that same statement about her emails every time, is it possible you don’t have to read it all if it’s too long just like anything else?

  4. Yea the emails are quite a read but they are informative and I enjoy the light reading. All in all I’m happy with Tiff and don’t really see a reason to vote for Marla, honestly patty is preferable to Marla. I don’t trust candidate for Congress bhalla has the right ideas for uptown so voting for his candidate is a no go. Plus I think Tiff was right about voting down the hhs proposal while Marla was all for it, even though ward 2 wasn’t.

  5. I subscribe to Fisher’s newsletter b/c it is the only informative, transparent source of what’s happening. And I live in the 5th Ward. I unsubscribed from Phil’s “newsletter” b/c it was a repeat of political nixel alerts and/or more Bhalla admin taking credit for projects initiated before they were elected.

  6. I already voted for TIFFANY and so did the rest of my family. She works well with the PUBLIC who actually get involved on issues that affect the SECOND WARD and the rest of the CITY. SHE CERTAINLY is NOT a rubber stamp for any higher up POLITICIAN…Margaret O’Brien SENIOR ACTIVIST….
