“Earlier this week, we announced historic progress in our fight against crime as we close out 2023 with the lowest homicide rate in Jersey City’s history and the lowest among the top 100 largest cities throughout the entire East Coast,” Mayor Steven Fulop said in a statement.

“We look forward to continued progress, and today’s graduates play a key role in expanding our public safety efforts and community building as they start their careers with the greatest police department in the state.”

Wednesday marked the third day in a row that Fulop discussed public safety in some capacity.

On Monday, he discussed the 2023 crime statistics and then on Tuesday discussed his statewide public safety plan if elected governor.

“Our focus on enhancing the number of police officers citywide has allowed for increased patrols in targeted areas,” added Public Safety Director James Shea.

“Additionally, our diversity recruitment also allows for greater focus on proactively strengthening community relations with the officers who are out in the neighborhoods every day and night.”

The new officers joined the force are Robin J. Mendez, Glenn T. Full, Jr.,  Kerwin J. Sampson, Raymond Vasquez, Bryan A. Jimenez, Joston K. Malave, Brandon J. Neno, Rashaun J. Spence II, Aidan R. Broderick, Kevin Valdelamar, Katelyn B. Santana, Skyler A. Niekrasz, Karla A. Lum, Allisan M. Paulino, Rodolfo Torres Jr., Brandon J. Barth, Raundre J. Spence, Cincere J. Rivers, Joan D. Mena, Melanie Bautista, Remon B. Girgis, Rohan P. Passram, Ahmed M. Omer, Richard A. Urena Jr., Carlinsky J. Dumene, Stanley J. Nunez, Angel L. Ortiz, and Fady N. Soliman.
