The Jersey City Police Department promoted 31 new sergeants and 35 new detectives at a City Hall ceremony this morning, officials said.

“Promotions within the police force are not just a recognition of individual achievement but also a strategic move to ensure we have the right leaders in place to address the complex challenges of modern policing,” Mayor Steven Fulop, who has now presided over nearly 500 police promotions over the past decade, said in a statement.
“We are proud of our officers and confident in their ability to continue to protect and serve our community.”
Additionally, Public Safety Director James Shea highlighted the importance of these promotions in enhancing the department’s operational effectiveness.
“These latest promotions reflect our dedication to maintaining a strong, capable, and well-trained police force. Our officers have demonstrated exceptional dedication and professionalism, and these advancements are well-deserved,” he added.
The new sergeants are Anthony Scally, Jessica Fernandez-Cruz, Melissa A. Ona, Gina M. Sandwith, Emily A. Herdoiza, Edmund W. Redmond, Matthew T. Destefano, Cynthia J. Cowan, Kevin C. Geib, Humberto Portuondo Jr., Raphael M. Minkarious, Frankie J. Marto III, Michael F. Petronella, Luis R. Matias, Joseph Sandwith, Frank J. Martinez, Ryan A. Ali, Tommy Zambrzycki, Chris Otundo, James R. Woods IV, Jeans C. Acevedo, David J. Weber, Lucas Abreu Espinal, Erik M. Infantes, Michael J. Chiarella, Travis L. Evans, Megan A. Bara, Steve Gerges, Edwin Perez Jr, Alberto Cotto, and Jennie Ramos.
The new detectives are Francisco Rivera, Joseph Crecco, Clarence Dabney, Bosede Clark, Franklin Delo Santos, Shady Azmy, Rocco Lucciola, Chanel Thomas, Gladys J. Villegas, Courtney E.
