“Last week, as students discussed the horror of the war in Ukraine, they discussed ways they could provide assistance. Sophia Oquendo, an eighth grade student at WFM and Secaucus resident, shared with her classmates that her town’s mayor was collecting supplies to send to Poland to help families affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,” the school said in a statement yesterday.

“The students quickly jumped into action and organized a school-wide fundraiser to collect supplies as part of the school’s Year of Gratitude Campaign. The middle school is asking the school community to donate diapers, clothing for babies and children, powder baby formula, small toys and small books.”

On Thursday, the Township of North Bergen and the Town of Secaucus announced they would be teaming up to make donations to the Ukraine that included desktop computers, children’s clothing, toys and stuffed animals, school supplies, among other necessities.

Montessori students who are interested in helping will deliver donations to Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli and the town council.
