Jersey City man gets 18-year prison sentence for 2021 fatal Heights stabbing

A Jersey City man received an 18-year prison sentence last week for a 2021 fatal Heights stabbing, authorities announced today.

On Friday, June 9th, Hudson County Superior Court Judge Vincent Militello sentenced Steven Bardsley, 57, to 18 years in New Jersey State Prison for the 2021 stabbing death of Steven Bochman, 54, in Jersey City, County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.

Bardsley, of Jersey City, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated manslaughter on Wednesday, March 29th and the sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act.

The State was represented in this matter by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Andrew Baginski.

On Saturday, July 24th, 2021, just after 10 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of 151 Cambridge Ave. where they found a lifeless man, later identified as Bochman, with a stab wound to the neck.

The victim was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 10:20 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner Office determined the cause of death to be a stab wound to the neck and the manner to be homicide.
