Erick Vargas, 30, of Jersey City, is charged with aggravated assault, as well as a separate warrant for aggravated assault, according to Police Det. Sgt. William Dundas.

He was arrested yesterday after allegedly assaulting another man at Thai O’Brien’s bar, located at 478 Avenue E.

The two were involved in a brief verbal altercation that led to shoving inside of the bar and upon closing, the two met outside the bar and Vargas punched the victim, causing him to fall and hit his head on the ground.

As a result, the victim suffered a ganglia hemorrhage on the left side of his brain.

Vargas was also processed on an outstanding warrant for an alleged aggravated assault that occurred on March 17th, 2023 at Eddy’s Bar, located at 504 John F. Kennedy Blvd.

During that incident, Vargas and another man assaulted a victim who was attempting to purchase cigarettes.

Witnesses told police that Vargas denied the victim access to the retail portion of Eddy’s and asked the victim “Do you have a problem?”

The victim only spoke Spanish and therefore did not understand Vargas. The situation escalated and Vargas eventually punched the victim in the face, which knocked him unconscious and broke his jaw.

Vargas was processed on both incidents and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, authorities said.
