JCEA President Ron Greco and the Jersey City Education Association have endorsed Gerald Lyons, Lorenzo Richardson and Joel Torres in the upcoming Jersey City Board of Education election.

In a strongly worded statement, Greco noted the candidates he’s endorsing are “not beholden to any interest seeking to profit from, or privatize areas of, our public school system in Jersey City.â€
He added “they will not usher in corporate “reforms” such as employing Teach for America employees.â€
Gerald Lyons and Lorenzo Richardson are part of the Children First team, which also includes Gina Verdibello.
Children First campaign manager Felicia Palmer said “while Mr. Torres is a worthy candidate, The Children First Team is sticking together.â€
She added: “we have three candidates with a proven track record of dealing with the board of education.â€
Verdibello was interviewed by Hudson County View prior to the endorsement by the JCEA, which will be published shortly.
Torres could not be reached for immediate comment on this story, but has had letters published in both the Jersey Journal and Hudson Reporter recently for those seeking information about his candidacy.
No other candidates for Jersey City Board of Education were reached for comment on the JCEA endorsement.
Thanks JCEA, let us bring back the best practices of Democracy to school board.
What is 2262 doing? I hope they will decide the same. Except I hope they endorse the entire team. Glad that JCEA has seen the light.
