A Jersey City woman who works as a public safety dispatcher has been charged in a Bayonne hit-and-run on Route 440 early Sunday morning that left a man in critical condition, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Kalimah Toon, 37, of Jersey City, is charged with aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon (motor vehicle) for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious bodily injury, endangering an injured victim, and hindering.
She was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending her first court appearance.
At approximately 12:20 a.m. on October 13th, the Bayonne Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of Route 440 and 22nd Street.
Responding officers located a male victim, later identified as a 34-year-old Bayonne resident, with life-threatening injuries. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
During the investigation, it was determined Toon and the victim were involved in an altercation on the shoulder of Route 440.
Toon then entered a Ford Escape and intentionally struck the victim with the vehicle. The victim and defendant are known to one another. Toon is employed as a public safety dispatcher in Jersey City.
Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Bayonne Police Department with the arrest and investigation.
Hello, I am the cousin of Kalimah Toon and I would like to give a different insight on what happened the night of the accident. I don’t feel like you guys are wrong about the details of the night in question, but there is definitely another side to the story that hasn’t been considered. My cousin is not just some woman that just runs people over with her vehicle. This has been a long time coming, with the abusive past that he has and that needs to be addressed. There is a paper trail for the abuse that he has committed, and she is his legal wife. THEY ARE MARRIED. He has been abusive the entire marriage, and she snapped. HE ABUSED HER RIGHT BEFORE SHE LOST IT. She did not run him over just because, this was a passionate crime of being tired of your husband putting his hands on you. There is witness account of her being punched in the face during the “altercation” right before he was struck. Don’t paint my cousin out to be just a crazy woman with keys to a car, she is nothing like that. She has never been in any legal trouble and is a good member of society, as she works everyday to make sure the people in her community are safe… hence, her job as dispatcher. She is nothing but a good person that snapped on a man she loved and thought would protect her, but he harmed her instead. They are not just acquaintances nor was he just a pedestrian, he was in the car and abused her in the same vehicle THAT NIGHT. Again, there is Witness account of this… and had you did any research you would have known that DOMINIC, her husband, has already gotten in trouble for beating my cousin. This isn’t new, and he is not a victim. At least not totally. MY COUSIN KALIMAH IS A VICTIM TOO.

Im kalimah grandmother.this is showing only one side of this event.That man is her partner has been in 2 and ahalf yr.r elationship.He has a police record of abuse at her plus an order of protection from his mother given by police wiitnessing his verbal threatening at her. His mom has been raising Domonicks 13yr.old son and had legal custody .Domonick has a ten yr.history of drug addiction. Which he hid from kalimah when they met.She had been attempting to help him through it while enduring his abuse unbeknowing to us her family. Resulting in him becoming very frightenly aggressive.to the point of her leaving her apt to stay with friends.she has been supporting him in everyway she knew how. Abuse or no abuse, does not give someone the right to attempt to kill someone with their vehicle. The previous comments stated that there was a history of abuse, why stay? Why wait until it’s “soooooo bad” that you now try and kill the man with your car. Abuse is not right on any level, whether it be physical or mental. Thats”law abiding citizen” should have called the cops (if she was abused that night) and let them handle it. For this to be defended as a “crime of passion” is bogus!!! Kalimah knew of the history and was told on multiple occasions to leave the VICTIM before she pushed for marriage. Who marries a person with such a “horrible history”. She has been in a relationship with the victim for 3 and a half years. The night of his arrest for “abusing Kalimah” (since you have the details) you’d know Kalimah Toon showed up at his mother’s residence and refused to leave at 2:30am with a friend. Banging on the door, screaming and causing a scene for the neighbors. Kalimah Toon is NOT so innocent! On multiple occasions while intoxicated she has been the one to hit and abuse the Victim (actual witnesses can attest) but then cries she’s the victim. The whole relationship is toxic, but from multiple family members OF THE VICTIM told Kalimah to LEAVE HIM. She decided to stay. There is NO witness’s besides the video camera that caught the incident on tape!!! that night she decided to jump in the vehicle and run over a man she so called loves and left him there to die. She lied multiple times that night and hid her vehicle in which she ran him over with. Kalimah Toon took the victims sneakers and cell phone to make it look like a robbery (because he didn’t have any when he got to the hospital). She thought about her actions and decided to do what was best for her. He was arrested for his “abuse”. She was never hospitalized for her “abuse”. All Kalimah done is LIE! Lied to police, lied to the victims family and lied to her own family about the “accident”. Just a bunch of lies!
i’ve witnessed kalimah hit him numerous times first they were both toxic dom was not drunk or high that night he had 2 beers while playing pool they left argued without getting physical he started to walk away she jumped back in her car and hit him got out the car took his sneakers and phone and drove across the street and got gas that’s not a crime of passion sounds like revenge to me someone who works as a dispatcher should know better and should of called the cops if he hit her like she’s done before but no she hit him and she had time to think about what she was doing she choose to do this no sane person no matter how mad would hit somebody with their car and with that being said she deserves everything that’s coming to her

Dominick didn’t drink until he met Kalimah. And Kalimah does her own drinking and drugs. Abuse was on both ends. Dominick is still in the hospital, going on 3 weeks now. Don’t think Kalimah was ever hospitalized for her abuse. Hope she rots in jail like she deserves. Think the charges should be attempted murder. So glad she is finally out of his life! He deserves so much better!!!
Think Kalimah was so drunk and high on drugs that night, that she had to hide her vehicle and wait over 5 hours to contact anyone, to come down from what ever she was on. Video shows Dom walking away from the 2 of them on the side of the road, and she got into her car and drove intentionally into him, leaving him dead on the street! Hope the prosecutor can get charges to be Attempted Murder. She could be a murderer!!
Clearly you don’t know what you’re talking about as her family you should know how crazy she is anyway. Her previous relationship was also very toxic coincidence much ? Dominick never drank or was violet in his life until Kalimah came along and she attacked him on several occasions let alone this crime of trying to kill him with a car. There has been many times of others explaining her random acts of violence going as far as threatening to shoot a friends moms house and attack whoever is there even breaking the glass to one of his friends homes due to her being under influences! They are not and never were married and she has stalked him several times so for her to claim victim of abuse is honestly obscured. Her constant physical and verbal abuse should not be ignored and now running him over and tampering with evidence and all of the other false statements given to police and family while she is in hiding proves guilty! And there are recordings of her threats to not only Dominick but his friends as well!! Dominick has sustained substantial brain injuries and other injury including his feet which will prevent him from walking properly for the rest of his life and long term effects still unknown due to brain damage caused by Kalimah. So I think as her family you should know the truth instead of being online giving incorrect information if she is your cousin or granddaughter etc you KNOW SHE HAS MENTAL issues for a very long time. He should be arrested for assault for punching kalimah in the face which the authilorties saw on camera.he started that altercation by that punch.he is an addict that had smoking embalming for the last 10 yrs.his mom is raising his 13yr old son.the police issued an order of protection against Dominick for his mother.but he still stays there.he now has a court case as of march 2025 against him for dragging a childhood friend around by her hair while treating her with a hammer at the same time.
