“JCPOBA sends our deepest condolences to the family & friends of Officer Noel Santiago, Jr.,” the Jersey City Police Officers Benevolent Association tweeted yesterday.

“As our Jersey City community mourns the loss of Noel, we’re forever inspired by his bravery, professionalism, and dedication to the people he served. #F***Cancer #EOW #JerseyCity #JCPD.”

Santiago worked as a Hudson County corrections officer in Kearny between August 2005 and March 2007, then at the county sheriff’s office until June 2014, before serving as Jersey City police officer for nearly nine years, according to his LinkedIn page.

He was once recognized by his peers for helping pull a family from a burning building.

The neighboring Hoboken Police Department was one of several to offer their condolences to the JCPD and the Santiago family.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters of the @JCPoliceDept. We are saddened to learn of the passing of PO. Santiago Jr. R.I.P. brother you will not be forgotten. Our condolences to PO. Santiago’s family. @HobokenPBA2 @HobokenPSOA2 @JerseyCityPOBA @NJSPBA,” they wrote on Twitter.
